All laws, even those passed with the best of intentions, lead to unintended consequences. California’s efforts to control violent crime and mass shootings by limiting the number and type of firearms for sale are a case in point. Writing in the National Review, Austin Yack says that the laws have had an unintended consequence; Californians now own more guns than ever, responding to every new gun control law with new purchases. He says that in the time leading up to the ban on the bullet button semi-automatic rifles, gun owners bought more than a quarter of a million in the span of six months.
